NATURAL BONDS

Present a creation that expresses your idea of “NATURAL BONDS”.

The 2021 theme "Natural Bonds" was inspired by the term “bonds” and our connection with nature while living in a world that requires physical distance.

Digital communication is the new norm to maintain bonds in our modern society however, at the same time our desire to revitalize our relationship with Mother Nature has grown.

The beauty of nature and its power which can enrich our daily lives becomes more important for us to stay strong during the socially restricted times.

1. Entry Period: 1 Sep to 30 Nov, 2021 (Starting Date depends on each country/region)
   
2. Entry Method: ONLINE SUBMISSION (Please entry your submission via the BEAUTY INNOVATOR AWARD 2021 entry page on Shiseido Professional’s official website).
   
3. Entry Fee: Any HK$1,500 purchase of Shiseido Professional in-salon products.
   
4. Entry qualification: hair salon stylist in all ages and level of experience.
   

The results will be announced at a Beauty Event hosted by Shiseido Professional

STEP1＞Grand Prix Photograph Evaluation

Key points assessed in photograph evaluation

• Overall composition of photograph and degree of perfection as a creative piece
  
• Freshness, trendiness, and balance of the hair design
  
• Technical expression of textures and details
  
• Whether the hair design and makeup suit the model
  
  

Art Creation Category – Creative requirements

• The hairstyle can be of any genre such as a cut style or up-do.
  
• The use of hair pieces, extensions, and accessories is permitted.
  
• However, submissions will be disqualified if the entire head is covered by anything other than hair, such as a hat, wires, wool, or straw.
  
  

Real Creation Category – Creative requirements

• Entrants are required to develop a cut & color style using the model’s natural hair. (Up-dos are not permitted.)
  
• Although the style must be designed using the model’s natural hair, minimal use of hair pieces and extensions will be allowed. (It must not cover more than 30 percent of the model’s hair, and full wigs are not permitted.)
  
• Submissions must be created using only Shiseido Professional hair color products. (Use of color products other than Shiseido Professional will not be permitted.)
  
  

Photography requirements

• The photograph must be a JPG or PNG file around 5MB in size. Anything smaller than 2MB will be disqualified.
  
• Photographs must be in A4 size (210mm x 297mm).
  
• Photographs must show the model from the waist up or closer, and allow a detailed view of the hair design (submissions will be disqualified if the outline of the head is not shown clearly.)
  
• Photographs can either be in portrait or landscape format.
  
• Grand Prix winners will be asked to resubmit their work in a larger size so that it can be printed (around 50MB, 80bit and RGB).

STEP2＞Asia Champion Live Model Evaluation*

Key points of model evaluation

• Overall aesthetic balance of the hair and costume, as well as degree of perfection as a creative piece
  
• Freshness, trendiness, and balance of the hair design
  
• Technical expression of textures and details
  
• Whether the hair design and makeup suit the model
  
  

Art Creation Category – Competition requirements

• The hairstyle can be of any genre such as a cut style or up-do.
  
• The use of hair pieces, extensions, and accessories is permitted.
  
• However, submissions will be disqualified if the entire head is covered by anything other than hair, such as a hat, wires, wool, or straw.
  
• The hairstyle and model presented in the final stage do not have to be identical to the entrant’s photograph submission.
  
• The use of supporting members is permitted during prep work for the final stage (such as makeup).
  
  

Real Creation Category – Competition requirements

• Entrants are required to develop a cut & color style using the model’s natural hair. (Use of wigs, hair pieces, extensions or hair accessories will not be permitted.)
  
• Entrants will be asked to dye the model’s hair before the competition, and only demonstrate cut and styling techniques on the day.
  
• Model’s hair must be colored using only Shiseido Professional hair color products. (Use of color products other than Shiseido Professional will not be permitted.)
  
• The hairstyle and model presented in the final stage do not have to be identical to the entrant’s photograph submission.
  
• The use of supporting members is permitted during prep work for the final stage (such as makeup).
  
  

※Regarding participation in the final stage and model screening, we will determine whether or not to hold the event about 6 months before it, taking into account the status of the Covid-19 infection. If it is determined that it is difficult to hold the event, an online live screening using a video meeting service such as Zoom may be held in advance. Details will be announced on Shiseido Professional official website and SNS around March 2022.

Common Rules for Both Categories

Creative Requirements

• Submissions must be original, unpublished works.
  
• Entrants can only be submitted their work(s) to a single category.
  
• Multiple entries can be submitted to the category of choice based on the theme “NATURAL BONDS”.
  
• Submissions must be created using Shiseido Professional products (color, perm, styling, and hair care).
  
• Models can be of any gender, professional or amateur.
  
• The model’s hair must be styled from start to finish by the entrant.
  
• If any supporting members were involved in creating the submission (i.e. parts other than the hair), state their names and what they performed in the entry form.
  
• Please obtain the consent of the model and any supporting members before submitting your entry.
  
  

Non-eligible Entries

• Submissions must be original, unpublished works. Works previously entered in other contests or BIA in previous years will not be eligible. (Identical works with different angles, poses or clothes will also not be eligible.)
  
• Works must demonstrate original forms of expression and creativity. If a submission is found to be strikingly similar to works presented in other contests, the submission or award may be disqualified upon thorough deliberation by the jury.
  
• Works entered in this award must not be submitted to other contests nor published in magazines etc.
  
• For submissions to be eligible, Photoshop and all other computer graphics application software must not be used to create any form of alteration to the hair’s silhouette, volume and texture in the photographed creation. However, such programs may only be used on the hair to remove unintended or flyaway hair and also on the model’s skin, costume, background and hair’s silhouette.
  
• If a submission is found to be in violation with this and other requirements for the creation of works, photography, and entry procedures, it will be disqualified, even after completion of the selection process.
  
• In the cases of such a violation submissions will be refused in the future.
  
  

Other Points to Note

• All copyrights of submitted works are the property of Shiseido Professional Co., Ltd. (hereinafter, “the Company”).
  
• Submitted works (photographs) will not be returned.
  
• Please refer to the entry form for rules for the handling of personal information supplied by entrants.
  
• Submitted works may be published on Shiseido Professional’s official website and social media accounts. The Company has the discretion to decide without prior consent which submission to publish, and whether the entrant’s name will appear.
  
• Details of the contest and prizes may be subject to change. Any change shall be notified on the official website related to Shiseido Professional and shall take effect when it is published on the website.
  
• Only the winners of the extra prizes will be eligible to receive them. The prizes cannot be transferred to third parties or exchanged for cash.
  
• In the event that any damage is caused to third parties due to infringement of the above, the entrant in question shall be wholly responsible and bear any ensuing costs.
